Now Playing Tracks

ghouliesandghosties:

Alright, NOW I can finally announce what I’ve been keeping bottled up for ages!

It is worth noting that this is the most exciting and fantastic thing that has ever happened to me. I’ve always dreamed about illustrating a Gaiman book, and this is more than I ever could have hoped for.

Neil Gaiman’s Calendar of Tales website is finally up, and I am very flattered and very honored to announce that he chose my illustration for November. I remember finding out while I was at work and sitting in front of my computer and crying on the library books.  Now the kind comment he’s written is making me cry again. I’m a bit of a mess right now.

I don’t think I can express how honored I feel to have been part of this, and how happy I am that I was able to give back a little.  Neil’s work is incredibly inspirational to me. I have been lucky enough to meet him twice (and Amanda Palmer once as well!), and I cannot say enough how wonderful they are.

Please do go and look at all the wonderful submissions, and check September for my friend Katie’s submission!

And again Neil (I already tweeted this at you, but I’m going to shout it into the void of the internet yet again in the hope that it will reach you), thank you a thousand times! I can’t say that enough.

I cannot contain my excitement!

-Quotes that came up in my mind.- 1. "The key to be Brave is to let go of Fear." 2. "Once you sit down, you will never stand up." 3. "Never say I wish, say I will." 4. "Challenges are hard because they lead you to something different in you." -Well, that's all I got. See you. ~Nicole/Evelyn-

Here is mine, as a writer:

Writers write to make mistakes.

Writers become better at writing by writing. They keep going and they make mistakes. They just keep making better mistakes.

Be in the Now.

Sometimes the past can highly affect who you are now. Heavy or light. So can the future. What might happen, if you’ve got it all planned. But sometimes you forget where you are. Be in the present and live your life right now.

EDIT:

On your first quote you said to be brave, you have to let go of fear. Being brave is having a fear. For example, you have a fear of being hurt. So you play safe. But one day, your friend is being chased by some, I don’t know, bees. You save your friend even though you get hurt. Though, being hurt isn’t the point. Being brave is doing what you are afraid of even though you are scared. I understand that now.

On your fourth quote, you are right about change. Change can be hard. Even an 11 year old knows that. Everyone does. Though, change will come. Whether you like it or not. It is what you decide to do about it that makes it hard.

Jabberwocky, Lewis Carroll, 1872

JABBERWOCKY

Lewis Carroll

(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought —
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
“And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!’
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Sara Bareilles - The Light (Studio Version) + Lyrics New Song 2013 (by CiaraBasicInstinct)

One of my new favorite songs. 1. For simple yet awesome instrumental that sounds really cute and cheerful. 2. For it being Sara singing. 3. The lyrics go really well. 4. I’ve been listening to this on loop for the past three days whenever I’m using my laptop. MUST LISTEN TO.

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.
Dr. Seuss (not a link)

I am anti-life, the beast of judgement. I am the dark at the end of everything. The end of universes, gods, worlds… of everything.

And what will you be then, Dreamlord?

I am hope.”

-Neil Gaiman, Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes

Choronzon and Dream, playing the oldest game, in Preludes and Nocturnes.

“A philosopher once asked, “Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?”

Pointless, really…”Do the stars gaze back?” Now that’s a question.”
